True Musings

Political Musing
Isn’t it interesting that we live in a time when monster conglomerates can purge toxic filth into our water, earth and sky with no regulation whatsoever and the people who try to raise awareness about it are called terrorists? In fact, environmental activists are considered this country’s foremost domestic terrorist threat – according to this administration.

It is telling about the era in which we live when diplomacy is seen as cowardice.

Don’t you just hate people in congress clapping each other on the back calling themselves “public servants”? Is that the most hypocritical title, like, ever?

It’s good news, but sad all at the same time. Some conservatives have broken ranks with the administration and said that yah, probably illegal to the whole NSA wiretapping gig. How did they reach this conclusion? They thought “what if Hilary had done the same thing.” Bob Barr (former Republican rep from GA) said , "If the American people see the conservative movement rolling over and playing dead and buying into these specious arguments by the administration - that it's OK to violate the law as long as you do it for the right reasons and because we might have a president that we like - then the credibility of the conservative movement on other issues will suffer greatly." Good news because it’s good to see so many people agree that everyone has to follow the laws. Sad news because it took having to apply it to democrats for the unlawfulness of it to be discovered (to republicans at least).

Vegan Musing
Isn’t it terrible that over 50 million people in this country have high cholesterol, high blood pressure and are candidates for heart disease (a low fat doesn’t help apparently) yet no one breathes a word about what all these ailments have in common. The consumption of meat and dairy. We have been so indoctrinated by the MAD (meat and dairy) industry, that we (that’s the collective “we” as in society) don’t consider a meal a real meal if there isn’t meat. Something that is actually toxic to our system (in the mid- to long term) is incorporated into our food pyramid. Now try to tell me that the MAD industry doesn’t have just a smidge of influence on our policy makers. We were never meant to consume meat. Everything about our physical makeup screams herbivore. From our teeth to our digestive system – herbivore. Yet we continue to shove this stuff into our mouths and expect our body to process the poisons. It’s crazy. The US refuses to conduct a ten dollar test (per animal) on its meat exports because they know that our supply is tarnished and they will not be able to boast about our pristine supply. Japan will not import it. We scream “mad cow” yet, we refuse to acknowledge that a) it exists in this country b) this is a direct result of forced cannibalism. Feeding dead cows to living cows – who by the way are herbivores as well – is the reason all this madness occurred in the first place.

Showbiz Musings
Dave Chapelle was on Oprah the other day. I don’t watch Oprah very often, I like her, but I hate watching television during the day. Anyway, I do sit and watch a little teevee when I am eating in order to slow that whole process down, and I happened to turn on the O. I personally think Dave is a wildly, hysterically funny guy. Exceedingly funny. But it seems to me there is a huge difference between a standup comic and an actor. I think standup comics put a lot of themselves up there, although it might be a persona, I think they are far more vulnerable than an actor who takes on characters. An actor might be a character actor – he might be someone who is totally engrossed by that character almost becoming that person. But I don’t think an actor has the same openness that a standup has. I believe you have to be a truly sensitive individual to be able to express yourself like that. Kind of like the difference between a real musician – someone who writes his experiences, writes the music, and sings them out to people – and someone like say Jessica Simpson. That’s no slam against JP, she has a great voice, but there’s an investment difference. I think that’s why we see so many stand up comics and true musicians spiraling out of control. Artists by their very nature are perceptive people who feel things very deeply. I think the world can get to be too much for people like that. If you look at everything that needs to be fixed, it can be overwhelming.
Like my house. It’s a disaster. I don’t even know where to start. I am too sensitive for this house.
Anyway, from what I gather, Dave took off to Africa, possibly to realign himself. Anyone who can walk away from 50 million dollars because he felt things were out of control, that the way things were going he found unacceptable, is ok by me. He said “success takes you where character cannot sustain you.” True, true, oh king, live forever!
