I've said this before and I will say it again, and again if necessary. It is inherently wrong to categorize people from another culture, religion, ethnic background, sexual preference, etc. as evil. Currently this is the prevalent attitude of the evil "radical" Islamists. We - that is the Americans and Israelis and really, let's be honest, anyone that agrees or goes along with us as the side with honor, the side of righteousness, the side that God really wants to win, the ones that, golly gee, just want to get along but have been forced into "protecting" ourselves, defending ourselves from "militants" or "terrorists" who want to "destroy us" "kill us" or otherwise, do not go along with what we want. The other side is painted as evil, crazy, even, with wild eyes and no sense of humanity. What a load of...rot. It's kind of like that attitude I have seen repeatedly of "oh they don't mind living like that, they don't know anything else." about people who live in abject poverty, dig through rubbish for a meal, live in deplorable conditions. If you wouldn't like to live in those conditions, why is it acceptable for others?
Why is the life of one single solitary Lebanese person - child, woman, man - less valuable than mine?
Yours?
Why is it ok to blow the crap out of people because they don't have the resources to leave? Why is it no big deal to allow innocent people to lose their own lives or the lives of those that they love while people dither around with "permanent" or temporary cease-fires? How can you sit around a table and say - no! That's not good enough. It won't be a long lasting condition so therefore no condition should exist at all? How on earth do you live with yourself knowing that in your hands you hold the power to end the slaughter of innocent people? Why is the life of one of them not as important as mine, my sons, my sister, my mother, my brother?
It is mind boggling.
And shockingly embarrassing.
Once again, I believe we can do better. I believe we can be leaders. The saddest thing of all is that so many good people have been duped into believing that what we are doing is right. That some innocent lives must be sacrificed for the greater good. The craziest thing I've heard lately justifying the slaughter is that the evil Hezbollah is using civilians as human shields.
Does this kind of propaganda ever end?
Who benefits from this?
Who ultimately benefits from this scenario?
Not you.
Not me.
I have a funny feeling it just might be the same people that always benefit from this sort of carnage.
