I have listened to Rumsfeld and to Rice…
Listening to rumsfeld was again like watching someone talk about something that no one else has access to. Which, actually is the case. No one has access to the world where bush, cheney, rice and rumsfeld live. In their own little reality they are expecting at any moment for flowers to be showered upon the troops, the economy to turn upward, for scandals to be some kind of new “Punked” show, and for a hidden door in the desert to suddenly appear, with all the WMDs of which they spoke for all the world to see. I can actually see a little sleepy smile cross gw’s night-time face as he skips through dreamland embracing his teddy.
I sat there completely perplexed that these people refuse to acknowledge the truth, the reality of what is going on. Other people’s lives don’t matter because they are being sacrificed to the greater good.
It was rice on Hardball yesterday that was truly nauseating. It reminded me of all those women at the country club, Junior League, on the PTO or planning committees. The ones that know how to smile and say things in such a way with a hint of positive, joviality in their voice that allows them to say anything and get away with it because the listener is either too polite to shoot this deranged lunatic down or too perplexed by the mad spinning.
The truly scary thing is, is that I think they really believe this crap. They really believe that there is some secular “unrest” which taken out of context might seem somewhat “violent” but those are outsiders, not the real Iraqis that want peace and democracy.
The reason that the Washington establishment is so totally freaking out right now about the liberman situation is because they are all realizing that the American public is not buying anymore. They are not buying the BS, they are not buying the excuses and the reasons for all the corruption and the failings. They, we, know that our best interests are not being taken into consideration. It does have something to do with whether you backed the war or not, but it goes so much deeper.
It goes to the core of who we are. We are tired of imperialism abroad when our basic needs are being ignored.
The number one issue for Americans is health care. The overwhelming majority of people want national healthcare. They want our environment cleaned up so their children can be outside and not develop life long diseases – like, say, asthma from pollution. They want to work with the rest of the world and not have everyone hate us to the point that they all gang up and try to take us out. They have had enough of big business running the government, and by God, or by any other means necessary, they will change it.
We will change it.
The libermans’ in our government are going. It might sound like the entire system is being ripped apart, but in actuality that is just the sound of the roots of evil being torn from every conceivable nook and cranny of all tiers of our government. It might leave a mess but it always does when you do major renovations.
Once all the mold, rot, and corrosion is removed, then we can rebuild.
It should look quite nice.
