PSA

Ok. It has come to my attention that there are A LOT of commercials on television about pharmaceuticals. When did this happen? When did two out of the three advertisement on TV become medical? Restless leg syndrome? Are they kidding?

"When you finally sit down, trying to relax, your legs! Ohmygawd! They want to move! They can’t relax! ARRRRGGGGGHHHH! I need a pill!"

No.

You need a walk.

Your legs are trying to tell you something. They need to stretch. They need to walk or maybe even run.

Aspirin for your heart. Lipitor for your cholesterol. Ambien to help you sleep. A bee sponsored allergy medication. Antacids. Arthritis cream. The stomach band? Colon cleanser? An additional test besides a pap?

Geez.

I have determined that if it is really something we need, if it is something we need to talk to our “doctor” about it will be a PSA – a public service announcement, otherwise, it’s just someone wanting your money. If we truly are all in desperate need of something, when we go to our doctor she/he will let us know. If they don’t know, then some wise entity will get on the collective horn and announce that we need it. Until then, a few truths:

Walk. If you aren’t exercising regularly then go for a walk.

Stop eating meat. I know this sounds impossible, but if you don’t want any heart disease and you want to absolutely minimize your chances of having any kind of cancer you will go vegan, and try to go organic. Not only will you be eating as you are meant to eat, you will be saving like 200 animals a year. 200! That’s amazing.

Laugh. Laugh at yourself. Find a good video, a good comedian, a good friend and laugh.

Love more than you hate. Hard to do right now in an era of intolerance, but you will find that heavy thing you are carrying around is called your heart and it does much better when it’s light and happy.

Volunteer. Feeling like your life stinks? You have nothing? Your rent is late, you don’t have a car, you have no food? Go somewhere and volunteer your time. You will find that you are far better off than you realize and they always feed the volunteers.

Recycle. I know it seems like a pain, but it’s so worth it.

Compost. Nothing says "I care" more than turning a big pile of yard clippings, kitchen scraps, and newspaper into something you can put on your plants to make them the most healthy and colorful in the neighborhood.

Sing and/or Dance at least once a day.

You’re welcome. Anything I can do to help. Just do me a favor and don’t be a consumer when it comes to your health, don’t fall victim to the marketing machine. And don’t call your doctor asking for the little purple pill.
