In the Making Vegans Happy as little free roaming clams Contest, the trophies go as follows: (drum roll)

1.TOFUTTI
Woohoo.
Tofutti has come out with a cheese that is not only edible but it also has no trace of milk derivatives and it comes in at least three different varieties – mozzarella, white American with garlic and Cheddar. They also make a vegan sour cream (you have no idea how great that really is!) and cream cheese. And their ice cream is really good too.

2. YVES
Yves makes a sliced in “cold cut” fashion Cajun Chicken that is awesome and completely vegan. They also have a veggie roast, ham, turkey, and baloney – all of which make it possible for me to have a semi-“normal” lunch.

3. Morningstar
Morningstar has come out with “mealstarters” which are strips of beef and chicken that are mildly seasoned and totally vegan. They are great breaded and fried or used in chicken enchiladas or beef stew. Anywhere the dead stuff goes, the vegan stuff can be subbed. Yee-haw. They also make a crumbled vegetable protein that subs in for ground beef.

4. Boca
Boca makes the only vegan chicken nuggets, which I live on. They also make the crumbled vegetable protein that I use for tacos, enchiladas, shepherd’s pie, sloppy joes and assorted other recipes that call for ground beef.

5. Silk
Silk soymilk is actually drinkable. They make a thicker soy cream that is awesome in coffee, light soymilk that’s good with cereal and a regular soy milk that is great with tea. They have a chocolate soymilk that is the best I have tasted.

So why all this brand naming? Because I cannot count how many times people say – “what do you eat, vegetables and fruit?” “Where do you get your protein?” That is just a mere sampling, from off the top of my head. There is such a variety out there now, not like when I first became vegetarian. Shudder.

We are so ill informed. And it’s because we expect our government to be setting guidelines and standards with US, the people of this country, in mind – our health and well-being, and that is SO not what is going on. The standards are being set by big business – big agribusiness. The factory farms want more consumption of their “products” so they pay people to push their agenda. And their agenda does NOT do a body good. Milk does a CALF’S body good, but not a person. Do yourself a favor, try one of the above items. Try the boca nuggets with a little honey mustard or bbq sauce. Not only is it the kindest choice you can make, it is surprisingly good and good for you. Did you know the crumbled veggie protein has 80% less fat than ground beef? 80%! That’s a huge number! And nothing had to die for it. Seriously, try the tacos with the Morningstar or Boca. With all that taco seasoning, no one will ever know that they are eating healthy. I made a shepherd’s for a school function. No one knew it was vegan and it was the first thing to go. Everyone asked for the recipe. They all looked stunned when I told them it was fake meat! Hahahaha. Sorry, vegan humor.

You don’t have to be a raw food eater, a food nazi or a freak to eat compassionately, you just have to be a little more thoughtful.

That food that you are about to stick into your mouth, where has it been? Do you shudder at the thought or simply don’t have the vaguest idea? Maybe you should look into it, because if people knew what was going on to God’s creatures behind the walls of corporate factory farms we would all be vegans.

And now, you have a guide.
