Spring Musings

Once again “mad cow” rears its ugly head. Ugly because this is what happens when you think you know better than God. Cows are herbivores. Plain and simple. Feed them as directed. But no. We humans can make them better than they were before! Better! Stronger! More tasty! We will feed them…….each other! Moihahahahahaha!
Shudder.
And thus, we have diseased animals. Shock. Horror. Say it ain’t so! Dear God! How? Where did we go wrong? Oh, such an easy question to answer. Arrogance. The name of the game as of late. We don’t eat what we’re supposed to, and look at us! We’re rock stars! Not. We are typically overweight with ever increasing heart conditions, colon problems and other symptoms of not eating what God intended us to eat. Let’s check out Genesis 1:29, where it all began. Of course, there are many, many interpretations of each line of each book of the bible. So I will give a cross section.

Genesis 1:29

God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food. (WEB)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: (ASV)

And God said, See, I have given you every plant producing seed, on the face of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit producing seed: they will be for your food: (BBE)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb producing seed that is on the whole earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree producing seed: it shall be food for you; (DBY)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. (KJV)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food. (WBS)

And God said: 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed--to you it shall be for food; (JPS)

And God saith, 'Lo, I have given to you every herb sowing seed, which 'is' upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which 'is' the fruit of a tree sowing seed, to you it is for food; (YLT)

Right there….the prophesy of tofu – seeds (soy) made into meat! Hallelujah! All that crap about animals here for our consumption and dominion is a just propaganda brought to you by the Meat and Dairy Industry. Anyway, its good to know that this thirteen-year-old dairy cow didn’t enter the food market, eh? Phew. That’s a relief. The supply is still untarnished. My goodness, what a stroke of luck. Kinda like ground zero in NYC for two weeks after the attack was considered, by anyone who knew anything, the deadliest environment on earth, yet we had our bravest most diligent people down there trying to find the dead and cleaning up. Without the appropriate gear. Why? Because this administration doesn’t believe in telling people the truth about a situation, they believe in bs. They needed people there, they needed people focused on revenge, and they didn’t want to have to deal with the fallout and the very weak wristed arena of environmentalism. The mantra of this administration is the one I abhor more than anything else…ok, I hate when people say they are going to do something and they don’t do it, but next in line has got to be the denial of reality. Don’t look at it and it will cease to exist. Now we have all these people who worked tirelessly in the pit turning up with all kinds of respiratory illness. Oh for crying out loud! Quit yer belly achin’! At least we have the most enviable medical community in the world. A gated community. One which only a few might have access to. But it’s envied!

Of course we started out last week rubbing our collective hands together in the classic villain move awaiting our first bone-i-fied sentence of death for a real life terrorist. Oh dear. Problem. Someone might have gotten a bit over-eager and coached the witnesses beyond any semblance of truth. Hate it when that happens! Will the whole ordeal be deemed a mistrial? Golly. I guess that’s what happens when you make crap up, huh? Sorry. That’s what happens when you make stuff up and get caught.

We haven’t heard a whole lot about the hundreds of thousands of people marching against the anti-immigration legislation going on in congress. Essentially making anyone who did not go through legal channels to enter this country into felons. Didn’t see that coming. What an embarrassment our legislation has become! The attack on class and race and sex is on, my brother, and you better look to the elections because that’s what this is all about. They don’t want minorities voting because minorities don’t vote their way. Speaking of voting, don’t expect your vote to count much, hacking is a major problem and I am convinced that if DeLay made it through the primary, then there is reason to believe that we are in serious trouble.

The thing is – if you deny people a voice they might take it for awhile but as things get more and more out of control and they see life becoming more and more askew, they will MAKE their voices heard, and it won’t be pretty. Marginalizing, minimizing, trivializing people’s reality is only going to make them really mad.

And finally, a word about McCain. I always like McCain. He seemed independent. He seemed to have his finger on the pulse of the people who really make this country great. But once he joined bush on the campaign trail, I realized that another one had been sucked in and he lost all credibility to me. I admired his anti-torture efforts, but he’s a republican brown-noser who is now, after analysis of his voting record, the THIRD most CONSERVATIVE member of the senate. He is no maverick. He in fact is taking the same path as bush, in cultivating a relationship with the religious right. He wants to send more troops to Iraq, not addressing the very real issue of numbers. Number, McCain. You can’t send what you don’t have. Duh.

It is spring break. And I have never in my life felt a more desperate need for a spring cleaning than I do right now. In 2004 I think there were a lot of people on the fence, politically. Not wanting to make a change mid-war. Not sure if bush was really all that bad. Now they know. He is. He breaks laws. He has stripped the protections of our environment away for the sole purpose of lining the pockets of big contributors. He believes in torture. He does not care about the average citizen. I don’t see very many fence dwellers anymore. Even the W stickers appear to be vacating the premises. Dare I dream? Sure. Why not? Stranger things have happened.
