In observance of the 300,000+ seals that will be slaughtered in just a few short days, we will have a funeral procession from KPFT Studio to the Canadian Consulate. We will meet at KPFT at 11am (419 Lovett Blvd. Houston, Texas 77006) to get our cars ready for the procession. We will leave at noon to start our drive to the consulate for what we hope is a massive demonstration of Houstonions' disgust at this annual slaughter. Visit our website for more information. www.InSolidarityWithAnimals.com or contact Danielle, Co-Director of ISWA, at (832) 257-7200
Here is a moving video encouraging participation in the protests. It was created by super-activist, digital video wiz Synthian Sharp. He took the initiative and produced this on his own. It's making its way around the world with the help of activists like you. Please forward this to everyone you know!
Harpseals.org is taking the seal campaign to TV with 30 second commercials / public service announcements! Check out our their commercial here.
What do Hell and Canada have in common?
If you're a seal, you'll found out on March 28, 2006.
Canada’s annual seal hunt is the largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet. It’s also the cruelest. On March 28, fishermen in the North Atlantic will invade the ice floes to club and shoot baby seals, just to earn a few extra bucks by selling seal skins. Many of these seals are utterly defenseless. Last year, 98.5% of the seals killed were two months of age or younger. The Humane Society of the United States documented the carnage firsthand and what they saw was shocking: Most of these pups were left to choke on their own blood for up to 90 minutes and were cut open while they were conscious and still struggling. And it doesn't stop with them. The protective mothers try to come between their babes and the hunters. They are shot at and stabbed with hakapiks. They flee for their lives leaving their terrifed and screaming babes alone to face an inevitable violent death. The mothers themselves often bleed to death or drown from their wounds.
Thanks, Lori, for forwarding this on to me!
